    Next time you must learn to release the windlass so the anchor chain goes down much faster. It's the only way!!!

    Thanks for the video and the route map, I've sailed that area many times, but haven't done that route. A couple of tips for others watching (as I'm sure you don't need this tip 9 years later). Get in the habit of throwing windward line first. Once that is secure you are basically safe. If you need to muscle the bow round, with the windward attached you can "dutch sprong" with forward drive and helm to wind to pull you up wind and stop you parking on your neighbour.

    Never been to Greece but I have a question: i have not seen nor fresh water supply nor electricity on those docks, so what's actually the point in mooring in places without lazy lines, with all the risks and concerns, Just to have noisy neighbor around? Isn't Better to stay at bay?

    Good video, how not to do it! 1. Please guys, bevor you enter a harbour, dress a shirt. I don't know if in south Africa is usual to be undressed. But in Europa it is not! That's a very bad seamanship and disrespectful for the people in the harbour. It testifies a bad education. :-( 2. This docking are under the lightest conditions. Stern-to against the wind. No problem for absolute beginners! ;-) 3. If your job is to manage the stern line on starboard, be more concentrate in what you are doing. You overlooked the knot in the middle of your sternline! This little things may cause big trouble during the docking of your vessel. ;-) 4. You was totally wrong with your south African flag! Question: In which country you was sailing in this video? South Africa?????? I suppose you was sailing in Greece, isn't it? And you was sailing with a greek charterboot, right? Which has a Greek flag at the stern? Correct? Now, if you want to hint your nationality with the south African flag, the right position is on portside! NOT starboard!!! The only reason to set a country flag on starboard is during the VISIT of this country with a vessel another nationality. Example: When I visit Cape Town with my own Vessel - German flag at the stern (German nationality), I will set the south African flag on starboard, to show my Respect for your country. Further I pay attention that the south African flag is above my German flag. This has something to do with respect and good seamanship! I don't know if you know what that means. Summarized: I suppose that it was unintentional from your side, but I want to explain what you provoke. A) with your South African flag on starboard, over the Greek flag! means -> "I come from south africa, I'm completely stupid and have no idea of rules, tradition, neither seamanship." ;-))) B) docking with naked upper body means -> I'm the most beautiful creature on earth and completely disrespectful. It means nothing for me what you are thinking about. You and your country have no reason to earn my respect." ;-)))) Really, I don't think that this was your intention, but please for the next time. Inform yourself about differences between your country and the country you'll visit. And to learn something about tradition and good seamanship, never will be a mistake. Last but not least! Thumbs up for you barbecue, it looks amazing! :-))) Best regards

    Sorry but lots of errors. DO NOT TIE TO TREES - it is an offence in Turkey. KayaKoy is nowhere near Kapi Creek. I don't think the narrator has ever visited as almost every place was mispronounced. Nice videoing though.

      Hey Peter, I see you're full of criticisms, even suggesting that the narrator is lying about visiting Turkey. However you obviously didn't bother to read or listen that carefully as the video is all about planning a trip to Turkey. The narrator never once said he'd nene to a Turkey. As for the pronouciation, I believe he is spot on with most of the names. And finally, Peter, have you done a video comparable to this polished performances??

    Hi, just got back from my 2 weeks sailing in Croatia around Brac, Solta, Hvar and Korchula. Absolutely magic with a good sea breeze and delightful anchorages. Not to mention the food which is superb. I am sure you are right about selling yr experience before paying. As for myself i had to (re)show my competency certificate as well as the vhf certificate. I have also been told that one person with the charter co is responsible with gauging whether the skipper knows what is he/she is doing especially when leaving the base marina.

  • @thesailingvideos
    @thesailingvideos 9 лет назад

    Hi ririshow, you have read the "rules" correctly. However, the reality is quite different. Those rules protect the charter companies only. In Sep'14 we chartered a bareboat yacht from Yacht4You established in Kastela Marina. The crucial thing is to get the charter company to accept your existing experience (whatever that may be) up front, before any payment is made. I did exactly that and made the booking subject to their agreement. No further questions were ever asked and no one so much as even requested or mentioned my (lack of) experience.
